How do you think that Bold Women of Business demonstrate being bold?
We are confident yet humble, we are strong yet gentle. We recognize our worth and abilities and want to inspire fellow bold women to do the same.
Bold women are often defined by a number of descriptors. Please choose from the following descriptors to produce the top three that you would say most exemplify your personality?
Confident
Strong
Please provide an example of when you feel you were at your very best in taking action on the job or in your role.
When I told my previous employer and fellow co-workers I was leaving, the out pouring of support and admiration was overwhelming. There were three young females in my office that expressed how much they looked up to me and looked to emulate me. I was so flattered and did not realize the impact I had on them.
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened on your road to success?
I performed an inventory observation at a meat packaging plant when I was newer staff. I learned that beef is gradually cooled and while counting dead cow carcass I almost tripped and fell on a piece of cow fat about the size of a volleyball in the freezer. I didn’t eat beef for over a year after performing that inventory observation.
Who most inspires your personal drive for success every day?
My mother, who is widowed, owns and operates her own real estate firm, has endured so much personally. Between losing her husband and watching her children leave the house to chase their dreams – I have one brother in the Air Force who has deployed to Iraq four times. She carries herself with such class and strength through all of life’s challenges. She is the ultimate role model.
What is your best advice to women in Southwest Michigan looking to succeed, as you have, in business?
Be confident and trust your instincts. We often create our own glass ceilings as women and we must work everyday to break them and realize the sky is the limit. “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.” ― Oprah Winfrey
What does your selection to the ranks of the Bold Women of Business from Moody on the Market mean to you?
The selection is very humbling and uplifting. Seeing fellow bold women uplifted and celebrated is exciting. We need to continue to support strong women!
