Ruff waters ahead: FuzzyButz, city to host Dog Day on at Whirlpool Compass Fountain this weekend

Get ready for one last dog day of summer this weekend, featuring a side of pupperoni pizza.

With the last day for the public to play in the Whirlpool Compass Fountain set for this Friday, the City of St. Joseph is once again collaborating with FuzzyButz Pet Bakery for Dog Day at the Fountain on Saturday, Oct. 1. As a special treat, FuzzyButz will be handing out doggie pizza boxes to the first 50 dogs that arrive. Each box contains dog treats in the form of a slice of pizza, a beer mug treat, and a cannoli cookie.

“It was fabulous last year,” said City Manager John Hodgson, at the regular city commission meeting on Monday. “It was really cool to see people go down there and let their dogs play in the fountain. I sat down there for longer than I should admit.”

There also will be pizza party-themed props for photo opportunities, according to the FuzzyButz Facebook page. The event runs from 2 to 6 p.m., and organizers said dogs should remain leashed at all times.
