Rock/Pop & Jazz Concert coming to LMC on April 9

The Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department promises a musical journey when they present the Rock/Pop and Jazz Band Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the LMC Mendel Center Hanson Theatre. 

The concert is free of charge. Groups providing the evening’s entertainment are the LMC Rock/Pop Ensemble directed by Don Savoie and the LMC Jazz Band directed by Danny Lopez.

The LMC Rock/Pop Ensemble is a rock stage band, performing music from classic rock to today’s popular rock hits. The students have been focusing on the music of Carole King this semester and will be performing her hits “I Feel the Earth Move,” “It’s Too Late,” and “So Far Away.” Other planned selections are “Walk Away” by Christina Aguilera and “Wait” by Marvin Sapp.

Personnel making up the Rock/Pop Band include Lauriebelle Radin on vocals; Andrew Ryan on bass; Zechariah Childs on drums; and Savoie on piano, guitar, and vocals.

LMC Jazz Band explores classical jazz styles, big band/swing era music, and the occasional rock arrangement. Among planned selections for this concert are “Blueberry Jam,” “The Way We Were,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” and “Virgen de la Macarena”

The LMC Jazz Band is made up of students and community members including Marcia Blake, Rodger Payne, Tammy Tallis, Glenn McFarland, and Rob Funk on saxophone; Monica Harpole, Andrew Brady, Heather Dodge, and Dan Ward on trombone; Maximillian Willfinger, Luis Sanchez, Joey Hayman, and Jonathan Orlando on trumpet; Guy Tardi on guitar; Nathan Dokter on piano; Doug Gillespie on bass; Zechariah Childs on drums; and Leo Rediess on auxiliary percussion. Guest vocalists include Ella Harris and Elisa Sypian.
