The River Terrace Apartment Complex in Benton Harbor has become a murder scene for the second time this summer, and both of those deaths follow another shooting there in April that seriously injured another man.
The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says they were called to the complex across from the Berrien County Department of Social Services offices in the shadow of the city’s water tower shortly before midnight last night, Tuesday, August 15th.
Upon arrival shortly after the 11:45pm call, police found a 32-year old man had been severely wounded by gunfire. He was taken to Lakeland Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man has not been identified, pending notification of family members. He was a Benton Harbor resident, and police are following several leads after questioning several people at the scene.
The investigation is being conducted by the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety with assistance from Michigan State Police Major Crimes Unit, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.
