Repaving Project Starts Monday for Portion of Eastbound I-94

Those in our midst who returned from Spring Break week in far warmer climates that tend to be considerably easier on road conditions, likely came back to two major headaches…snowfall on the first day back to work and school…and roads that are more akin to a war zone than what they’ve been driving on for the past week elsewhere in the nation.

The bad news is, the spring break-up process will likely continue for a while with freezing conditions giving way to thawing by midweek. The good news is for at least some who have to hit Interstate-94 on the daily commute some relief is on the way. Not a lot…but some is better than none.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesman Nick Schirripa says that starting next Monday, the team at MDOT will launch investment of $9-million to repave 5.8-miles of eastbound 94 from 56th Street to M-51 in Van Buren County. That’s in the Lawrence neighborhood, and in addition to new pavement, the project will include ramp and shoulder reconstruction, guardrail replacement, and pavement markings.

The project will entail nightly single-lane closures during the week and some weekend work possibilities. Those nightly lane closures are slated between 9pm and 9am.

The project is slated to start Monday, April 16th and is estimated to be complete by Friday, August 31st.

There’s a link to the project’s map for those who are impacted by this work in their regular travels on MDOT’s MiDrive website.
