REMINDER: SJ Commission Candidate Forum Tuesday Evening at Silver Beach Center

Voters in St. Joseph will have an opportunity Tuesday evening to hear from the six candidates for three seats on the St. Joseph City Commission.  The election is next month, November 7th.  Organizers of the Candidate Forum are the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber and News/Talk/Sports 94.9 WSJM.  It takes place at the Silver Beach Center, Shadowland Ballroom at 6 pm, Tuesday, October 10th.

Chamber President/CEO Arthur Havlicek will moderate the forum and hopes citizens will turn out or tune in:

“The Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber, in partnership with News/Talk/Sports WSJM, is pleased to invite you to a St. Joseph City Commission candidate forum on Tuesday, October 10th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Shadowland Ballroom. Doors open at 5:30pm.

This non-partisan forum will be streamed live on-the-air (94.9 WSJM) and on-line (Facebook Live), then re-broadcast and made available for on-demand consumption. The general public is welcome to attend the event in-person and we are encouraging those interested to RSVP in advance through this Eventbrite page. There will also be an informal networking opportunity following the forum, from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m., where the public is invited to stay and interact with the candidates directly. The event will include light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar option for those in attendance.”

As the Voice for Business in Southwest Michigan, Havlicek says the chamber’s organizational mission includes:

Representing our members’ interests in local, state, and federal government.
Communicating where our elected leaders stand on matters important to our members and our community.
SMRC seeks to accomplish both of those goals in this forum through a series of thoughtful questions that will focus largely on commerce and community issues.  It’s hoped the candidates that participate will benefit from the increased visibility this provides, and that our community will benefit from an informed electorate this November.
