Registration is now open for the 2023 Lake Michigan College Golf Outing, presented by Whirlpool Corp., and scheduled for Monday, July 24, at Point O’ Woods Golf & Country Club in Benton Township.
The annual event, organized by LMC’s Foundation and presenting sponsor Whirlpool Corp., raises funds to benefit LMC’s Intercollegiate Athletics programs, including equipment, uniforms, and team travel expenses.
“Proceeds from this event help to ensure that our student-athletes are equipped with all the resources they need to succeed in the classroom and on the field,” LMC’s Executive Director, Intercollegiate Athletics, and Campus Life Melissa Grau said. “Without this fundraiser, we couldn’t give our athletes the experiences we do.”
Four-person teams will play 18 holes in a scramble format with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. at Point O’ Woods, ranked by “Golf Digest” as one of the Top 100 golf courses in the United States for the past 40 years. Designed by golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., Point O’ Woods has hosted the Western Amateur, the most prestigious national championship in amateur golf, more than any other course in the 120-year history of the event. Golf legends Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods have all played the Point O’ Woods course.
Last year’s Lake Michigan College Golf Outing raised a record $20,000. This year’s fundraising goal is $25,000. LMC offers Intercollegiate Athletics in Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, and Men’s and Women’s Cross Country.
“We’re very thankful for the leadership of the LMC Foundation Board and the support from the community to invest in our student-athletes through this event,” LMC’s Vice President, Advancement & Community Impact Doug Schaffer said. “This year’s event is capped at 25 teams or 100 golfers who will get a truly unique golf experience. Registration is open, and spots are filling up fast.”
The entry fee is $250 per person or $1,000 per team. It includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, two complimentary drink tickets per person, a buffet breakfast with a coffee station, morning access to the driving range, grilled hot dogs and chips on the course, a cash beverage cart, a post-event charcuterie display with complimentary Lake Michigan Vintners Wine, and an awards presentation.
Sponsorship opportunities ranging from $500-$3,000 are also available.
