The director of the MSU Extension Office in Southwest Michigan is retiring.

MSU Extension District 13 Director Jullie Pioch addressed the Berrien County Bord of Commissioners on Thursday and shared the news.

“After 31 — and actually, I was going to say 32 in April — years with MSU Extension, I’ve decided to retire,” Pioch said. “February 6 is my last day.”

Pionk heads up an MSU Extension district that includes seven counties, Berrien among them. She said it’s been a rewarding career. Board Chair Mac Elliott asked if she could come back to a commission meeting before her retirement date.

“A well-deserved recognition is in order, and I’d like to put a little something together for you, something you can hang on a wall,” Elliott said.

The commission will likely approve an honorary resolution for Pioch. She said a search for her replacement will begin soon.

MSU Extension operates offices throughout Michigan, providing agriculture assistance to growers and doing ag research. It also helps manage natural resources and operates health programs in all 83 Michigan counties.
