Kalli Marshall with the Van Buren Conservation District tells us they’ll be at the Van Buren Intermediate School District on South Paw Paw Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take a variety of items so they can be safely recycled, free of charge.
“We’re going to be accepting, at no direct cost for residents of Van Buren County, household hazardous waste,” Marshall said. “So, things like oil-based paints, batteries, light bulbs, household cleaners, Styrofoam, tires, electronics, and confidential shredding papers.”
Marshall says there are no fees for any materials dropped off. The Van Buren Conservation District holds three recycling events each year, and they make a big difference.
“We usually service about 200 to 300 households per event. It’s a great turnout, and we’re always super excited to see out residents and make sure that these things are getting disposed of either by recycling, or responsibly disposing of the hazardous materials.”
Marshall says by recycling these items, they’re kept out of the waste stream that could potentially affect water quality.
Any Van Buren County resident can stop by to drop off items. They’re asked to bring along ID to prove they live in the county.
