Two K9s with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department are receiving new bullet and stab protective vests.

The non-profit Vested Interest in K9s, Incorporated is making the donations for K9s Kyro and Zadok. Vested Interest has been giving bullet proof vests to police agencies for their four-legged officers since 2009. During that time, it’s donated nearly 5,900 of the vests to police agencies in all 50 states.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department says the vests will be embroidered with the words “Born to Love-Trained to Serve-Loyal Always” and be delivered within ten weeks. The department has had a k9 unit since the early 1980s. Its K9s do patrol work that includes tracking, building searches, and narcotics detection.

Each vest from Vested Interest in K9s comes at a cost of $1,050.
