Power Outages Still Plague SW Michigan Neighborhoods as Crews Work on Repairs

Indiana Michigan Power is continuing its efforts to fully restore electric power after a series of Summer storms the past few days.  I & M spokesperson Tracy Warner reports there are still about 1200 customers without electric service in Southwest Michigan, 600 in the Benton Harbor area and 600 around Buchanan.

Warner says most of the Benton Harbor outages were ‘new’ overnight Saturday into Sunday when another storm rolled through.  However, a close examination of I & M’s outage map shows several Benton Harbor neighborhood outages that have been in effect since Thursday night.

I & M predicts that at least 90 percent of the Michigan outages should be restored by Sunday night at 11pm.

The company is now focusing its attention on Central Indiana, near Muncie and Marion, where thousands of customers are still without power.  Hundreds of addtional line crew workers have been brought in from other utilities to assist in the repairs.
