Police Impersonator on the Loose?

Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr is cautioning motorists in Michigan’s Great Southwest about a potential police impersonator who attempted to stop a couple of people along M-40 Tuesday afternoon. The man in question did not present any type of police identification, but made statements to indicate he was a police officer.

Underwood says that sometime around 2pm Tuesday, December 20th, his office was contacted from motorists in Newburg Township who were calling in from the Shell-Mart in Jones. The two attempted victims said that a suspicious vehicle attempted to stop them while they were traveling on M-40. Dispatchers asked them to wait for deputies to arrive at the service station to gather information on the incident.

Underwood says his officers are searching for anyone with information regarding the potential police impersonator described as a white man aged 65 to 70 years old with white hair, a beard and wearing a black hat or cap. The man in question was driving a red four-door Chevrolet or GMC Jimmy SUV with equipment racks loaded with gear on top, with possibly white flashing lights and large antennas. The vehicle also had “multiple bumper stickers all over it,” and may have had “Rescue” on the front hood or bug-screen area of the SUV.

The Cass County Sheriff’s office has asked us to share this information with you and asks that anyone with information on the incident Tuesday afternoon to contact their office or other local authorities. The incident remains under investigation.
