Police Ask Public Help In Tracking Dangerous BH Gunman

Gunfire erupted in the 700 block of Vineyard Avenue in Benton Harbor last night resulting in the wounding of a Benton Harbor woman and the manhunt for the gunman who remains at large.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety was dispatched just minutes after 10pm last night, Monday, September 23rd, when complaints about gunfire arrived at their office.

Deputy Director Michael Clark says officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Vineyard and found a 41-year old Benton Harbor Woman who lived there had been wounded by the shots fired.

She is being treated at Spectrum Health Lakeland and is currently listed in stable condition.

Clark says that a suspect has been identified in the investigation, and police are seeking Uriah Beauford, a 23 year old man from Benton Harbor.  Beauford is also currently wanted for unrelated charges and may either be in the Benton Harbor, Grand Rapids, or Kalamazoo areas as well.

Authorities caution you to not approach Beauford, as he is considered to be armed and dangerous.  They ask that you contact authorities and report his location, but do not confront him.

Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety detectives are being assisted by the Michigan State Police Mobile Crime Unit Detectives in the case and the investigation is ongoing.
