The Lincoln Township Library will be expanding its new digital lab thanks to a grant from the Berrien Community Foundation.

Library Director Joelle Wake tells us they’ve been awarded a $10,000 For Good Grant to purchase equipment that could be used by budding artists. The lab was first set up during the recent library renovations using a $15,000 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.

“We have two Apple computers in there, kind of brand new, that have lots of software on them that people can use,” Wake said. “We also are going to be adding different types of equipment into that room.”

Wake says with the BCF grant, they’ll be putting in video recording and editing equipment, graphic design and animation software, and large-scale poster and banner printers that could be used by aspiring artists, filmmakers, podcasters and other digital content creators. The library is arranging to help train people to use the equipment.

“We’ve been slowly introducing some classes to the public that they can use then the space for. So even this week, Wednesday night, we have a digital drawing class. So we have a number of iPads that have been purchased with drawing pens.”

Future classes could cover video editing, podcasting, and digital arts.

Wake says while much of what the digital lab has to offer will likely appeal to young visitors, it’ll be available for all ages. Anyone interested in learning more can visit or contact the Lincoln Township Library.
