Berrien County Cancer Service will be raising money and having some fun with the community next month with its Pink Toilet Time Outs at Watermark Brewing Company in Stevensville.
Berrien Cancer Service Director of Development Tyanna Weller Essig tells us they’ll have some pink toilets available as sitters raise funds on October 2.
“We’re calling it Pink Toilet Timeouts because cancer stinks,” Weller-Essig said. “So, we’ll be going to Watermark. We’ve got four pink toilets, and we’re asking people to sit on the toilets for five minutes and raise some money for us.”
A sitter can pay $10 and get a drink and a sticker, or they could pay $100 and also get a trophy. Those who have been nominated to sit on a toilet can get out of it by paying a $250 fee.
Weller-Essig says with four toilets, five minute sits, and the event going on for nearly five hours, they could potentially get hundreds of toilet sitters.
“We’re asking people to come as teams and cheer each other on sitting on the pink toilet. Even if they want to wear costumes or anything like that, we thought that would be fun.”
They’ll also have a dunk a duck throw, where people can buy a duck and try to throw it into a toilet.
The event will feature food and music, and of course, it’s all for a good cause. It will be at Watermark Brewing on October 2 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. and everyone’s invited.
Berrien Cancer Service started in 1948 to help support those battling cancer. Weller-Essig says it provides in-home nursing care in addition to support supplies like walkers, wheelchairs, wigs, bandages, and more.
