Peeping Mom Charged With Child Endangerment in Paw Paw

A Lawton mother who fled from the police after a Paw Paw party store owner called to complain that she was repeatedly peering through the car windows of customer vehicles last night is being held in the Van Buren County Jail on multiple charges including fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing police, and child endangerment.

The unidentified 30-year old from Lawton is charged following incidents that began shortly after 6pm Wednesday night, December 9th at the Wolf Lake Party Store on N. Kalamazoo Street and Davis Street in Paw Paw.

Store owners called the police to report a suspicious woman was looking into car windows of customers at the store and had been asked to leave the property but refused. When Michigan State Police Troopers arrived, the woman climbed into her own car and took off westbound on M-43.

Sheriff’s Deputies watching for her found her heading south on M-40 at 51st Street, entering the Village of Paw Paw and tried to pull her over to no avail. Stop sticks were deployed on Davis Street successfully flattening both passenger side tires on the woman’s car, and she still tried to make a getaway but only got about 4-blocks before giving up.

The woman’s 3-year old daughter was in the back seat in a child safety seat throughout the entire chase and has been turned over to family members.

The case remains under investigation, and she is being held in the county jail according to Sheriff Daniel Abbott.
