The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will be presenting at the March 9 meeting of the Palisades Community Advisory Panel (PCAP) to provide an overview of the NRC’s oversight responsibilities for the decommissioning of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant and to answer public questions regarding the decommissioning process. The NRC is the federal body that has exclusive jurisdiction over the decommissioning process for nuclear power plants.
“One of the PCAP’s intended purposes is to serve as a clearing house for public comments, questions, and publicly available information regarding physical decommissioning activities,” said Sarah Snoeyink, Programs and Projects Manager at Market Van Buren and Community Liaison for the PCAP. “This meeting will give members of the public an opportunity to hear directly from the NRC, which is the federal body that will oversee the decommissioning of the Palisades nuclear plant.”
The Wednesday, March 9 meeting of the PCAP will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the South Haven Campus of Lake Michgian College (125 Veterans Blvd., South Haven). Members or the public invited to attend in person or virtually via Zoom. Details on how to access the meeting virtually can be found on Van Buren County’s website here.
Members of the public interested in submitting questions or comments directly to the NRC may do so during the March 9 meeting’s public comment period; the public comment period will be open both virtual and in-person attendees.
Members of the public interested in submitting general questions or comments to the PCAP or its members may do so in two ways; they may submit a comment or question by sending an email to palisades@marketvanburen.org with the subject line “Public Comment,” or members of the public may submit comments and questions by speaking during the public comment period during the March 9 meeting.
