One new board member and an incumbent have won 6-year terms on the Berrien Regional Education Service Agency’s Board of Education — Berrien RESA for short. That’s the result of Monday’s election wherein local school districts voted to re-elect Dave Pagel of Berrien Springs and added new Board Member Andrew Robinson of St. Joseph during their biennial election. Both Pagel and Robinson will serve six-year terms beginning July 1, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2027.
It was inevitable that there would be at least one new member of the RESA Board after Trustee Cathy Bair announced that she was not seeking re-election.
As a result of her decision to step away, five individuals filed with the Berrien County Clerk’s office to be considered in the race, including Pagel who serves as Vice President on the Board currently.
Berrien RESA’s Board of Education had scheduled their biennial election to be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 5:30 pm to fill two seats, both for six-year terms expiring June 30, 2027.
The candidates were:
- Dave Pagel (incumbent), Berrien Springs
- Sara Bates, Buchanan
- Kevin M. Ivers, Bridgman
- Andrew Robinson, St. Joseph
- Daniel A. Seidling, Benton Harbor
Berrien RESA’s Board of Education members are elected by Berrien County school districts’ board of education members. Prior to the official election, each local district adopted a resolution indicating which candidates they intended to vote for as well as nominating a designee from their board to officially submit their district’s ballot at the Berrien RESA Administrative Center during last night’s election, which is now official.
