Orchards Mall store has ‘no plans to reopen’ after winter flooding decimated inventory

One of the last remaining business owners at Orchard’s Mall says he’s permanently calling it quits at that location. Back in late December, Doctor ZZZZ’s Mattress Center announced a temporary closure after a burst water pipe ran for several hours before anyone noticed and shut it off. Two months later, Doctor ZZZZ’s owner Norbert Zimpfer says an adequate cleanup never took place. He’s now afraid of mold contamination in the walls, and to even consider reopening, the whole mall area would require extensive remodeling.

“At the moment we have no plans to reopen,” Zimpfer said. “We are in talks with the current mall owner.”

Zimpfer said there was too much damage to his store’s inventory and reputation, so he’s talking to the owner, Durga Property Holdings, about compensation for the remaining 6-years on his lease for a business space that he can’t use. A representative for Durga Properties was contacted, but would not comment. With Doctor ZZZZ’s permanent closure, that leaves the Post Office, a boxing club, and a furniture store as the only remaining tenants.
