Ohio Woman Charged With Attempted Murder in Stevensville Fire

An Ohio woman has been arrested and charged with arson and attempted murder following a late night fire incident last night at the Spring Lake Mobile Home Park in Lincoln Township.

The Lincoln Township Police Department reports that around 10:30pm last night, Wednesday, March 25th, they and the Lincoln Township Fire Department were called out to Spring Lake, which is located at 604 W. John Beers Road, due to a house fire. Fortunately, by the time police arrived the fire had already been extinguished, but the investigation was just beginning.

Authorities say that a short time later, an intoxicated 28 year old woman from Ohio, who had fled the scene before officers arrived, was identified and arrested in the mobile home park. Witnesses said the woman, who is a family member of the homeowners, drove to the home in Lincoln Township because of a family dispute. She allegedly set the home on fire in response to the earlier family dispute.

At the time the home was set on fire, it was occupied by 7 people including two adult men, an adult woman, and 4 children ages from 4 to 13 years of age. The 28-year old female suspect was lodged in the Berrien County jail on charges of arson and attempted murder.

Police say that fortunately, there were no reported injuries and the damage to the home is estimated to be approximately $7,000.

They also tell us that the Ohio woman was allegedly involved in an incident in Benton Township prior to the incident at Spring Lake Mobile Home Park.

The Lincoln Township Police Department was assisted by the Lincoln Township Fire Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputies and Medic 1 Ambulance service.
