The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a meeting on the reopening of the Palisades plant this week.
NRC spokesperson Viktoria Mitlyng tells us the Palisades Restart Panel is holding quarterly meetings with the public to keep everyone in the loop regarding the latest developments. However, this week’s meeting will also include something new. She says the NRC and FEMA will discuss the new emergency operations plan being devised for the plant.
“NRC staff and FEMA staff are going to discuss the process for reviewing the submittal of the emergency plan by Holtec and how it is being reviewed by the NRC,” Mitlyng said.
Mitlyng says the emergency plan covers things like evacuation procedures and mass communication in the event of a disaster.
Everyone’s invited to attend the meeting to learn about the latest restart activities as well as the emergency plan. It will be held at the Grand Upton Hall at Lake Michigan College in Benton Township on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m. Mitlyng says the first hour will be an open house, and the formal meeting will start at 6. There’s also a virtual option, which you can find right here.
