Neighbors Organizing Against Racism (NOAR) will be hosting their inaugural Michigan Black Summit event Saturday February 18, from 11am to 3pm at Lake Michigan College’s Mendel Center. This free event includes a buffet lunch followed by a panel discussion with topics ranging from housing, education and health care to employment and revitalization.
Panel members include State Board of Education President Dr. Pamela Pugh, Benton Harbor Area Schools Board President Dashuna Robinson, Former State Rep and Neighborhood Hope Dealer Jewell Jones, Benton Harbor Mayor Pro-Tem Duane Seats, Flint Black Lives Matter President Dewaun Robinson, Mayor of Lathrup Village MI Kelly Garrett, Kalamazoo County Commissioner Monteze Morales, Berrien County Health Department Family Health Programs Manager Kyna King and CEO of MOJET Consulting Denavvia Mojet. The discussion will be facilitated by Reinaldo Tripplett.
“The Michigan Black Summit is an event that brings leaders from across Michigan together to address issues affecting African American communities and how we move forward,” says NOAR Founder Trenton Bowens. “This event will not only talk about issues but also bring us together to find solutions.”
The Michigan Black Summit will also host a vendor fair featuring several regional organizations that provide service throughout out Southwest Michigan including Black Voters Matter, Summit Financial, Present Pillars and more. During the event there will also be an opportunity to network with the panelist, area professionals and stakeholders.
