The Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce will host Michigan Chamber of Commerce President Jim Holcomb for a review of this week’s elections on Wednesday, August 7.

Holcomb will be featured as part of the Niles Chamber’s Buzz Breakfast, which is held every first Wednesday of the month between February and November. Niles Chamber Director Ryan Boeskool told us Holcomb will touch on the results of the election and how they can affect our state.

“He’ll be able to give it a big picture look at what that means for the state of Michigan and economic policy wise and everything,” Boeskool said.

Holcomb will also address the impact of the Michigan State Supreme Court ruling last week on minimum wage. The court ruled that starting February 25, 2025, tipped workers must be paid the same minimum wage as everyone else.

“I know that the Michigan Chamber holds very strong opinions on that issue and how it impacts businesses in the state.”

That minimum wage will be about $12 an hour, creating fears among many restaurant owners about their ability to remain open once the change takes place.

The Buzz Breakfast will be held at Gallery 1245 at 1245 South 11th Street in Niles starting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
