Just recently named MEMSPA’s 2022 Principal of the Year, New Buffalo Elementary’s Adam Bowen has now been selected as their new Superintendent of Schools. “I’ve always had aspirations of moving up in our district,” Adam says. “And this just happened to be the right time.”
“After gathering input from the staff and public via focus groups and an online survey, we held multiple rounds of interviews, and hosted visitations to the school district,” says the NBAS Superintendent Office Facebook page. “We held an Open House for the community members and staff to meet the final two candidates, and are now moving forward with Adam Bowen.”
Adam Bowen has been the Elementary Principal since 2017, and has spent over fifteen years teaching, coordinating, and guiding students in New Buffalo Area Schools. A New Buffalo High School graduate, he takes pride in his hometown, and his devotion is widely recognized by parents and guardians of NBES students. Under Adam’s leadership, New Buffalo Elementary School was awarded the title of National Blue Ribbon School; celebrating school excellence and outstanding school accomplishment in 2020.
New Buffalo Area Schools Board of Education Member Lisa Werner says, “Adam has demonstrated his ability to lead through his tenure as New Buffalo Elementary Principal. He is an active listener and takes action to improve student engagement. He is respected by his fellow teachers, community members, and the Board of Education. We look forward to his leadership taking the District to its next level.”
“My vision is to make every kid successful,” says Adam. “Whatever their dream is, we can make it come true. Becoming Superintendent will allow me to do that at all levels.”
When I visited the Elementary last Friday, Adam was deeply focused on an intense game of Students vs. Staff Dodgeball. “It will take some getting used to, not being in this building every day,” he says. “But as Superintendent, it’s like they’re all my kids. And I’m still going to come over for dodgeball.”
Adam steps into his new role on July 1st, 2023, and is excited to begin. “I will have a lot of learning to do, but I am ready. We are going to move forward, together,” he says.
