A new senior resident inspector for the Cook nuclear power plant has been named by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The NRC says Joseph Mancuso will oversee day to day operations at the plant to make sure all is running smoothly.
Mancuso joined the NRC in 2012 and most recently was a resident inspector at the Cook plant. He was also a project engineer in Region III and has supported the agency in conducting inspections at various NRC licensed power plants.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two resident inspectors, serving as the NRC’s eyes and ears at the facility. The inspectors monitor work projects and interact with plant workers and the public.
NRC Region III Administrator Jack Giessner says Mancuso’s “knowledge and experience will help ensure the plant continues to meet our regulations and nuclear safety is maintained.”
The new senior inspector will be on hand at a Cook plant safety meeting held by the NRC on Thursday at the Silver Beach Center in St. Joseph from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
