New Psychiatrist Sets Up Shop in Berrien County

Saying that Berrien County deserves to have more psychiatrists to accommodate the demand, a practitioner from the Holland area has established a new private psychiatric office in Stevensville and is now taking clients.

Dr. Lucien Tamer says he has clients that drive from Niles, Elkhart, Berrien Springs and Paw Paw in search of psychiatric care due to the scarcity of such service in their own communities.

Tamer says, “Mental health care is lacking in Berrien County, and often patients turn to their family doctor for treatment which, at times, can result in poor care.” He adds, “Riverwood/North Star has a waiting list and caters to the indigent population, and there is only one other private psychiatric office in the area.” Tamer contends, “Our county deserves to have more pyschiatrists to accommodate the demand and the needs of patients who desperately need assistance.”

Tamer has set up shop at 5710 St. Joseph Avenue in downtown Stevensville and can be reached by phone at 269-281-3994.

Tamer says that for now his practice is a solo operation, and due to lack of front staff and time, his services are out-of-pocket. While still maintaining his practice in Holland, Dr. Tamer will operate in Stevensville on Fridays from 11:30am until 3:30pm with hopes and plans to add additional time slots, days and hours in the near future.

For appointments or other consultation information, you can reach Tamer by phone at 269-281-3994.
