New Partnership Offers Cardboard & Paper Recycling Opportunity in SWM

If you’re into saving trees, reducing CO2 emissions, saving water and preserving landfill capacity, a new partnership is implementing a pilot project to expand the recycling of cardboard and paper recycling.

The Van Buren Conservation District, Broken Arrow Recycling, and Pratt Industries, Inc. have partnered to expand such recycling in Van Buren County. Resource Recycling Systems has designed, coordinated and implemented the pilot project on behalf of Pratt Industries. The new service is free to both businesses and residents and the quantity that can be recycled is unlimited.

Broken Arrow Recycling specializes in metal recycling and has built several collaborative partnerships with local and regional entities to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials in new and innovative ways. Pratt Recycling is a Pratt Industries company that works with communities and businesses across America to maximize landfill diversion by harvesting the urban forest. Pratt utilizes the paper products collected in the production of its 100-percent recycled content paper and packaging solutions. Resource Recycling Systems, based in Michigan, is the largest consulting firm in the country that is specifically focused on material management across the entire supply chain, including recycling and composting.

This three-month pilot program, running from September through November, may be extended based upon participation levels. To make the pilot project a success, you are encouraged to bring the following items to Environ, located at 67901 Red Arrow Highway in Hartford from September 1st through November 30th:

Cardboard and Paperboard

  • Cardboard boxes (must be flattened)
  • Cereal boxes
  • Other paperboard

Mixed Paper

  • Newspaper
  • Magazines & catalogs
  • Soft cover books

Recycling cardboard and paper saves trees, reduces CO2 emissions, saves water and preserves landfill capacity. Beginning September 1st, businesses and residents can support this pilot program.  The bins at Environ are available during daylight hours at the front of the property, near the road. You are asked to follow the directions on the signs when choosing which materials to include.
