New Glik’s of St. Joe Will Cut the Ribbon on State Street November First

Just hours after the last trick-or-treaters venture down State Street in St. Joseph many of their parents will be descending on the same street hopping to fill their bags with new fashions from the newly arriving Glik’s next door to the Buck Burgers & Brew.

Halloween magic will fade into the night and the morning will bring visions of North Face, Love Stitch, Silver Jeans and more as Glik’s 20th Michigan location takes a bow in St. Joe’s central business district with a 9am ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce.

The official chamber ribbon cutting celelebration for the newest location of one of America’s oldest retailers will welcome the new clothing store into the downtown mix just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The new location, at 414 State Street in downtown St. Joe, will mark the 20th such Michigan location for the company that specializes in women’s apparel and footwear. Featured brands will include North Face, Silver Jeans, Roxy, Elan, Love Stitch, Everly and more.

Glik’s shops are known for brands and styles specifically chosen for each individual community, and no two Glik’s store are exactly the same. The company’s stated policy is to follow the latest fashion trends and fill their stores with new fashion arrivals “almost daily.” They tout products lines, “from flattering denim styles, on-trend tops, to the latest shoes and charming accessories,” exuding confidence that “you’ll find something special and unique to add to your wardrobe on every visit.”

Glik family members are involved in every facet of the business, and even the patriarch, Joe Glik, who died earlier this year, interacted daily with associates. He was in his early 90s and still traveled to stores to continually ask associates, “How can we do better?” Joe’s sons Jeff and Jim carry on his legacy of “community, generosity, and passion for retail.”

Glik’s is known nationwide for their strong customer service, as the company has maintained and grown with their customer base since being founded 128 years ago back in 1890, earning the recognition of being the 14th oldest retailer in the United States. Currently the company has 60 locations in the Midwest with additional stores planned for the future.

South Haven area visitors and shoppers know the name Glik’s, from the store’s home there at 420 Phoenix Street in the community. There are also Glik’s stores in Sturgis, Saugatuck, and Holland in Michigan’s Great Southwest as well as stores ranging all the way north to Iron Mountain. Other Lake Michigan communities with Glik’s operations include Traverse City, Petoskey, Manistee, Ludington, Grand Haven, Frankfort, and Charlevoix.

The Glik’s model is to utilize a buying team to scout the best vendors from coast to coast. The company says, “Whether it’s Patagonia, Yeti, Simply Southern, KanCan Jeans or Alex & Ani, we make sure you get the latest looks as soon as they are available.” They add, “While we have grown into one of the nation’s largest privately-held stores, we have remained agile enough to turn on a dime to react to trends.”

You can be among the first to shop Glik’s of St. Joe two weeks from today on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
