If the falling leaves are making you miss Summer and Spring flowers, ARS Gallery, Arts, and Culture Center (ARS) is opening an exhibition this weekend that is sure to fill you with ‘flower power’. ARS hosts internationally acclaimed photographer and artist Emma Bass for her first show in the United States at 147 Fifth Street in the Benton Harbor Arts District, on Saturday, November 5th from 5-7 PM.
The exhibition, titled “BLOOM”, features photographic work by Bass whose floral compositions are described as inspiring metaphorical and narrative interpretations. With this show Bass seeks to cultivate a sense of hope, saying her work addresses a psychic human need for the uplifting power of beauty.
“Flowers are one of the most universal forms of beauty. They are tokens of love, a natural expression of the environment. Everywhere in the world flowers are cherished in some form. What’s more, they are scientifically proven to improve mental health and wellbeing. Flowers have power,” says Bass.
Residing in Auckland, New Zealand, Bass’ contemporary photographic compositions have been shown in leading art galleries in New Zealand and internationally and held in private collections throughout the world. Bass is the only New Zealand artist invited to exhibit at the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London both in 2016 and 2022.
“Just one look at Emma Bass’s artwork and we knew Bloom had to come to the States. Better yet, ARS! Her still-life flora photography is both thoughtful and breathtaking,” says ARS Founder Anna Russo-Sieber.
Guests will have a chance to meet Emma at the opening reception this Saturday. There will also be live music by classical guitarist Steve Reed, small bites and light refreshments to enjoy while browsing this unique exhibit. The exhibition runs until January 2023.
