The city of Benton Harbor has honored a local music industry success.

Commissioners this year named April 8 Carlton Mays Jr. Day to celebrate the work of Carlton Mays, otherwise known as CNOTE. He’s a record producer and songwriter who’s won two Grammys.

The Honorable CNOTE was on hand this week at Benton Harbor City Hall as Mayor Pro Tem Duane Seats presented him with the commission’s proclamation.

Mays was born on April 8 in Benton Harbor and found his passion for music at a young age. Since then, he’s become a double platinum record producer, songwriter, businessman, and investor. Mays has more than 7,000 album placements and his work was highlighted in the soundtrack of Madden ’22, with his production featured on the single “Ball is Life” by Swae Lee.

Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad signed the proclamation in honor of CNOTE this week.
