With reimbursement eligibility for personal protective equipment at risk, a number of agencies have reached out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency pleading for the existing policy to remain in place.
The National Governors Association is leading the way, firing off a letter to FEMA after learning that the agency intends to eliminate PPE and disinfectants as eligible reimbursable expenses under Public Assistance for COVID-19. Multiple agencies have joined the National Governor’s
Association as signatories to that letter, including organizations representing state and local governments urging FEMA to maintain the existing reimbursement policy.
In the letter to FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor, the following agencies and associations have joined the national appeal:
- National Governors Association
- National Conference of State Legislatures
- National League of Cities
- National Association of Counties
- International City/County Management Association
- The United States Council of Mayors
- The Council of State Governments
- National Emergency Management Association
In the letter to Gaynor, the organizations write, “Shifting policy guidance in the middle of a pandemic is impractical, causes confusion, and disrupts operations in states and localities.”
