As the hour approached to wield the over-sized, ceremonial scissors of Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce this afternoon, even Julie Wuerful’s cast of characters who man the phones, trucks and gear at Mosquito Squad didn’t know that the company had reached a new milestone in perfect alignment with her official ribbon cutting.
Revealing the achievement of surpassing fifteen-hundred customers, Wuerfel drew sustained applause from fellow chamber members, employees and others who turned out for the ribbon cutting as she shared the success of her newly relocated and expanded new headquarters operations on Plaza Drive behind the Fairplain Plaza this afternoon.
Wuerfel says her fleet was just expanded two weeks ago to a total of nine rigs, and her whole team is excited about that. In fact, she probed the well-wishers to see if anyone in the crowd wanted to join the team as she is actively recruiting for another operator.
The new, larger, more technically advanced building was put up in a matter of just three months because there were “some things that held it up, and we really didn’t get going on it until late February.” Nevertheless, the building was completed in time for the busy season and Wuerfel thanked Benton Township officials like Treasurer Deb Boothby and Building Inspector Chris Fuchs for being instrumental in making everything happen. Her team actually moved in over the Mother’s Day weekend.
Mosquito Squad of SW Michigan covers territory all the way to Potterville outside of Lansing, and south from there to the state line all the way back west to Lake Michigan.
Yesterday was the first day that trucks were dispatched from the new building, as they were actually scheduling still from the old offices in the Scottdale Triangle of Royalton Township because Comcast service lines were not in place for the new office space.
The new 6,000 square foot building was financed by Honor Credit Union and built by CPM Construction of St. Joseph who also managed the project and put it all together. Wuerfel joked that the CPM team “was instrumental in keeping everything going, especially once they found out I had been a project manager in a past life and we had weekly meetings. That really made the project move quickly.”
She thanked Crystal Colp from First Church of God for helping with color schemes for the interior design and making things come together, and also thanked her staff of technicians, office crew and everybody on the team, most of which were present for the ribbon cutting. She called them, “The best staff in the system, bar none.”
This years marks Mosquito Squad’s eighth year on the scene in Michigan’s Great Southwest and they have already achieved Top Ten status nationwide within the franchise world, of which the entire team is very proud.
Seven straight years of exponential growth and high customer volume resulted in the need for new larger quarters for Mosquito Squad of Southwest Michigan and that building is now up and running at 1966 Plaza Drive in Benton Harbor.
Mosquito Squad of Southwest Michigan is owned and operated by long-time franchisee Julie Wuerfel. With more than a dozen years of business experience across the retail and service sectors, Julie is well equipped to manage, maintain and develop businesses to serve customer needs. By moving into this new 6,000 square foot facility, service trucks will have the capability to utilize drive-through bays, which will increase efficiency and allow for easy maintenance. The new building will also serve as an upgraded training facility for all technicians and office personnel.
Julie says, “I am proud to be launching a new facility that will help us continue making an impact in our community.”
