Monday PM Update on ‘Boil Water Order’

St. Joseph Water Department officials are waiting for the word from lab tests of the water samples they completed Monday afternoon, following the weekend water main break near Marquette Woods Road.  That break led to a widespread ‘Boil Water Order’ that’s still in effect in Southern sections of the metro area.

Residents of the affected areas should continue to boil water that will be used for drinking, cooking or otherwise ‘ingested’ consumption purposes.

Here is the text of the official statement, following completion of the water tests in the repaired system:

It takes 24 hours to obtain the test results. If the tests are satisfactory, and the state of Michigan is satisfied, the Boil Water Advisory could be released by the state on Tuesday. If the tests are not satisfactory or the state calls for another round of tests, the Advisory could extend.
The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect at this time. An additional notice will be provided at 2PM tomorrow, 8/1.
During the Boil Water Advisory, water used in food preparation, cooking, drinking, or otherwise ingested should be boiled.

Water used for bathing, laundry, lawn irrigation, and similar uses need not be boiled. For additional information on Boil Water Advisories, see https://www.sjcity.com/…/boil-water-advisories-and-boil…
We apologize for the inconvenience to residents and businesses and are working to end the Advisory as soon as possible.
The Boil Water Advisory applies to St. Joseph public water system customers in:
• Lincoln Charter Township, including the Village of Stevensville
• Royalton Township
• The portion of St. Joseph Charter Township west of the St. Joseph River, including the Village of Shoreham
The Advisory does not apply to:
• The portion of St. Joseph Charter Township east of the St. Joseph River (Fairplain)
• The City of St. Joseph
