Michigan Works secures training grants for Southwest Michigan employers

Michigan Works Berrien, Cass, Van Buren has secured $1.7 million in competitive grants from the State of Michigan’s Going PRO Talent Fund.

30 employers will be able to enhance their workforce with new training and development. Michigan Works Berrien County Business Solutions manager Michael Mompremier says these grant cycles continue to provide the means to employers to grow.

“It continues to provide employers the means to just again upscale their staff and provide their staff with hard skill training that is transferable as well as has a direct impact, making them more efficient in their various roles,” Mompremier said.

This is the second grant cycle for the 2024 year, helping more than 69 employers and securing $4.6 million in grants.

The Going PRO talent fund allows for employers to pay for training and apprenticeships, and helps show employees that they have the tools to set them up for success. In total, Mompremier says the grants help keep jobs here in Southwest Michigan and have a significant financial impact.

“It has a significant financial impact for the employers. It has a significant financial impact for the area and the state as well in that we can keep more jobs in the area, attract more employers to the area, and increase the tax base. So, we are excited when the going pro application period is open, and our employers have been very enthusiastic.”

Michigan Works of Berrien, Cass, Van Buren specializes in educating, training, and employing individuals of all ages. They also provide additional resources to support growth and hiring needs, and retain employees.
