As an increasing number of State Troopers head for retirement, the Michigan State Police force is once again in recruitment mode, meaning new opportunities for those who have always dreamed of a career in service to local communities all across the state. If that’s a dream you or someone you know has harbored, there’s a seminar to learn more coming at the end of the month in Dowagiac.
The Michigan State Police will host an informational recruiting seminar on Saturday, September 30, at the Southwestern Michigan College Student Activity Center located at 58900 Cherry Grove Road in Dowagiac from 10am until noon that day. Attendees are asked to arrive by 9:45am.
Recognizing the importance of a diverse workforce, the Michigan State Police are committed to reflecting the communities they serve. The free seminar is designed to explain the variety of career opportunities available with the state police. Troopers, supervisors and command officers on hand will provide insight and answer questions about recruit training, the lifestyle of a trooper and which types of positions are available.
The minimum requirements for consideration of employment include:
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, of good moral character and have no felony convictions…
- Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen and a Michigan resident at the time of appointment to the academy…
- Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED…
- A good driving record and stable credit history is required.
The starting salary at the beginning of recruit school is $44,000 annually with a $7,800 raise upon completion of one year.
