The Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven invites you to celebrate the holidays with three festive events held inside the new Maritime Heritage Center throughout December! Celebrate the area’s maritime heritage and the holiday season on the Museum’s beautiful waterfront campus.
The holiday season will kick off with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus on Saturday, December 3! The Christmas couple will be in the beautiful Smith Grand Atrium from noon until 3 pm, ready to hear all about your list for the big day. Make sure to bring your camera to capture those special family memories! Meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus is free (museum admission is not included).
Next, get into the holiday spirit with renowned Great Lakes folk singer Lee Murdock performing The Christmas Ship Concert on Wednesday, December 14, from 6:30 – 7: 30 pm. The concert will feature songs of Michigan history, maritime and holiday music, including his original song, “The Christmas Ship.”
Broadly acknowledged as “the premier interpreter of songs and stories about the Great Lakes,” Lee Murdock has a boundless body of music and stories about his home region combining traditional songs from the days of sail alongside some of his own musical compositions—all depicting some aspect of history and life on the Great Lakes.
This program is supported in part through the generosity of the Niels Wells Grant Fund. Tickets are $10 for museum members and $15 for non-members. Join us in celebrating the season with song!
As Christmas approaches, what’s better than cozying up with a good book? Come to the Museum on Saturday, December 17 from 1-2 pm as our own commander of the fleet, Captain Bob Harnish reads children’s books about the famous Christmas Tree Ship. Like Santa’s visit, this family event is free to attend (museum admission is not included).
