Michigan Maritime Museum Launches ‘Rock The Boat’ Concert Fundraiser

Break out those leg warmers, shoulder pads, and acid-wash jeans!   You’re invited to the Michigan Maritime Museum’s first annual Rock The Boat, a family-friendly concert event on August 26, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

Rock The Boat will feature the ‘80s cover band The 1985 playing the biggest rock and pop hits from the 1980’s. The South Bend-based cover band has become well known for its audacious ‘80s costumes and high-energy performances that are sure to pack a dance floor. The band will perform on the Patrick Allkins & Jan Frizzo Family Event Lawn on the Museum’s campus where a stage will be erected for the event.

“We knew The 1985 could bring the right energy to help us make this event a massive celebration,” said Patti Montgomery Reinert, the Museum’s Executive Director. “Since we are an organization committed to preserving historical events, it seemed fitting to celebrate with a band that is focused on a fun and historical decade in music history as well.”

In addition to the live music, the Rock The Boat event will feature on-site food from the Wood, Stock and Grill food truck available for purchase as well as a cash bar offering wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. All proceeds from this concert go to the Museum as it begins Phase 2 of the historic Launching a Legacy campaign.

The new Maritime Heritage Center, opened in summer of 2022, was the culmination of Phase 1 of this ambitious project. Phase 2 promises to further develop the Museum’s campus with improvements to the waterfront boardwalk and docks, the complete restoration of the historic Jensen property, and the construction of a new lookout tower building.

“This is a chance for us to come together in a night of fun, food, music, and dancing to celebrate what we’ve achieved and look forward to what’s next,” added Reinert. “This is just the first occurrence of what we hope will become a highly anticipated annual event. We have some really big ideas for what it could continue to evolve into in the coming years!”

While VIP event table tickets are now sold out, guests can still purchase concert lawn tickets and dockside high top tables. Beach chairs are welcome if you’re rocking the boat from the concert lawn. Children four and under are free.
