Thanks to a Michigan Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, students accessing the highly successful Going PRO Talent Fund in the Great Lakes state will have a shot at a considerably larger pot of money going forward to help give them the tools to get trained for the highly skilled jobs Michigan manufacturers need every day.
As a result, the Michigan Manufacturers Association is today praising action by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Talent and Economic Development for increasing funding levels proposed to be appropriated to the successful Going PRO fund.
The Going PRO Talent Fund remains one of the state’s most effective resources to impart workers with in-demand skills and combat the talent crisis facing Michigan’s advanced manufacturing sector. Since Fiscal Year 2014, more than 16,000 workers from more than 2,200 companies have benefited from awards to support talent development, improved productivity, and greater employee retention. The Fund provides creative, future-focused manufacturers with the tools and talent to compete in a global economy.
This week, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Talent and Economic Development reported a budget bill with an increase of $10 million dollars for the Going PRO Talent Fund, bringing the total proposed funding for fiscal year 2020 to $37.9 million. The bill will now be reviewed by the full Senate Appropriations Committee.
Delaney McKinley, Senior Director of Government Affairs and Membership at the Michigan Manufacturer’s Association says, “We commend Chairman Ken Horn for his continued leadership and support for this critical program that has provided an outstanding return on investment for the State of Michigan in terms of demand-driven training that is needed by employers and sought-after skills for Michigan workers,” and adds, “A strong and talented workforce is essential to the continued growth of Michigan’s advanced manufacturing industry.”
