Michigan Manufacturers Assoc Crafts Tool Kit for Safe Restart

As more and more manufacturing companies across the Michigan landscape return to work this week and beyond, they’re gaining a valuable resource from the Michigan Manufacturers Association in the form of a new interactive tool kit with safety standards and more.

The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) today has released the MFG Tools for Safe and Productive Operations, an interactive tool kit integrating leading safety standards for manufacturers with direct links to more than 30 MMA member-provided products and services to help manufacturers scale up operations in the new normal. The tool kit, the latest in a series of MMA-supplied COVID-19 resources, is engineered to ensure manufacturing continues to lead the restart of Michigan’s economic engine. John J. Walsh, MMA President & CEO, says, “Manufacturers have been an inspiration during this global pandemic. They’ve stepped up to donate their resources toward the creation of personal protective equipment for front-line first responders, health care professionals and those personally fighting COVID-19,” adding, “Now that Governor Whitmer has given manufacturing the green light to get back to work, our new tool kit can help those same employers design a path to safely and productively restart their operations.”

The MFG Tools for Safe and Productive Operations tool kit condenses safety standards articulated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and includes best practices put forth by the State of Michigan and MMA’s diverse membership on topics ranging from decontamination, information technology, social distancing and virus mitigation to financial resources and supply chain management, training and communication, locating personal protective equipment (PPE), and legal and loss control services.

Walsh says, “I’m a natural optimist and have watched manufacturers all across the state begin to pull themselves up but they don’t have to create a restart strategy on their own,” noting, “The resources available to them through MMA can offer solutions and viable partners for challenges they are going to face in the weeks and months ahead.”

Additional resources accessible at mimfg.org/covid-19 include:

  • An MMA-Compiled List of PPE Manufacturers with contact details for more than 270 companies and a listing of product capabilities, ranging from N95 masks and hand sanitizer to ventilator parts and electrical equipment
  • MMA’s COVID-19 Resources with official guidance, executive orders, upcoming and recorded webinars, environmental & regulatory resources and a dozen additional MMA member-provided resources
  • The MMA COVID-19 Financial Relief Tool Kit which helps manufacturers locate financial assistance through emerging federal and state programs
  • PPE Design Specifications from General Motors, the State of Michigan and the University of Michigan to help manufacturers across the state of Michigan ramp up their own production efforts

Walsh reports, “Our resources, specifically the MFG Tools for Safe and Productive Operations, are continually evolving and we hope that all employers and industry supporters will share their own knowledge and best practices with us to ensure manufacturers have a leg up on their restart efforts.”

For nearly 120 years, the MMA has been serving Michigan manufacturers and related industries by providing effective representation at Michigan’s Capitol, timely educational seminars, quality and competitive-rate insurance programs, informational e-newsletters and a monthly magazine.
