MI Manufacturers Salute Senate Efforts to Get Michigan Back to Work

Saying it is a top priority for manufacturers state wide to get Michigan back to work, the Michigan Manufacturers Association is opening commending State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and the Senate Republican caucus for spearheading those plans.

MMA President & CEO John Walsh is applauding leaders for spearheading efforts to develop a systematic plan to prepare to transition Michigan’s employers and workers back to work as soon as it is safe to do so.

Walsh says, “At MMA, our top priority as our state faces the COVID-19 crisis is the health, safety and well-being of our members and their employees,” and adds, “We have worked closely with Governor Whitmer’s Administration, legislative leadership and all agencies involved with mitigation of the public health and economic impact of this pandemic and we thank them for the tireless work on behalf of all Michiganders.

Walsh continues, “While we recognize that Michigan has not yet surpassed the apex of the infection curve, we believe it is reasonable and wise to begin planning for a time when it will be safe to bring more workplaces back online.”

Meanwhile, Michigan manufacturers’ response to the desperate need for personal protective equipment has been and will continue to be critical to the state’s ability to weather the crisis.

Walsh says, “I am very proud to say that many manufacturers across Michigan are changing processes to make the much-needed personal protection equipment to protect health care workers and first responders as they help save people’s lives in their communities, statewide and across the nation. As conditions improve, it is manufacturing productivity that will drive the economic recovery and reverse the stunning economic conditions people are facing.”

Walsh tells us, “We look forward to working with the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ken Horn, and the members of the bipartisan ‘Safe Behavior for Safe Workplaces’ workgroup to identify practical recommendations for safely and systematically re-opening business activity and get Michigan’s economy and families back on track.”

For nearly 120 years, the MMA has been serving Michigan manufacturers and related industries by providing effective representation at Michigan’s Capitol, timely educational seminars, quality and competitive-rate insurance programs, informational e-newsletters and a monthly magazine.
