MI Manufacturers Getting Premium Relief During Pandemic

Another major industry association is stepping up for its members statewide in Michigan, this time with some insurance premium relief. The news comes from the Michigan Manufacturers Association this morning.

The Michigan Manufacturers Association Service Corporation (MMASC) has announced today creation of the MMA Premium Relief Program, through which the MMASC will pay 50-percent of their members’ May insurance premiums on all MMA/MetLife coverages — dental, life, short-term and long-term disability and vision.

The program represents the latest in a series of efforts by the MMA to assist manufacturers in overcoming COVID-19 challenges through e-learning tools, information about available financial assistance, connections across the statewide supply chain and the Association’s own nearly 120-year history of strong advocacy.

John Walsh, MMA President & CEO, says, “Many manufacturers were devastated — in the span of only a few days or weeks — by potential closure, loss of clients and hits to their supply chain,” and adds, “We have worked tirelessly with the Whitmer Administration and the Legislature to connect with manufacturers that can supply much-needed personal protection equipment as well as ways to prepare manufacturers for a time when they can return to a normal production schedule. The creation of the Premium Relief Program for MetLife coverage is another way we are helping our members weather the daily struggles they are currently facing.”

The Premium Relief Program will utilize existing premium reserves built up through longstanding effective plan management to meet the needs of MMA’s insurance members. MetLife has been the Association’s non-health care insurance provider for over 25 years.

Larry Janicki, President of the MMA Service Corporation, says, “We understand how the current COVID-19 pandemic is impacting businesses and forcing employers to consider difficult workforce decisions,” while pointing out, “The MMASC recognizes how important our members’ employees are to them and how important their existing MetLife benefits are to employees. This is one less burden for them to bear.”

For nearly 120 years, the MMA has been serving Michigan manufacturers and related industries by providing effective representation at Michigan’s Capitol, timely educational seminars, quality and competitive-rate insurance programs, informational e-newsletters and a monthly magazine.
