In a bid to recognize members of the Van Buren County business community who have excelled in the face of tough economic conditions over the past year, the team at Market Van Buren is launching a new set of awards to do just that.
The board and staff at Market Van Buren have announced this morning the 2021 Market Van Buren Awards, a new set of awards reserved exclusively for those organizations in Van Buren County that are leading the way toward a stronger local economy.
Market Van Buren Board Chair, Tom Stanek, says, “We all know that 2020 was a difficult year, which is why we want to take some time to step back and celebrate the hard-earned victories of Van Buren County businesses and economic development pioneers.”
While nominations for some of the awards will be handled internally, Market Van Buren needs the help of the public in identifying new businesses in Van Buren County that spent 2020 supporting the local economy, modeling tenacity, leading innovation, and simply making Van Buren a better place.
The “Best New Business” Award is reserved for businesses that have been in operation for two or fewer years as of January 1, 2021 and produce a product or provide a service in Van Buren County. A strong candidate will exhibit excellence in some or all of the following:
- Strategic planning
- Employee development
- Community involvement
- Customer service

Self-nominations are both accepted and encouraged. Community members are welcome to nominate more than one business for the “Best New Business” Award. However, should an individual submit multiple nominations for a single business, only the first nomination will be considered. Nominations will be accepted until 11:59 pm on February 14, 2021. Award semifinalists will be announced in early May. The Market Van Buren Board of Directors will then select the winners and there will be a ceremony to honor the award winners in June. The event format will be dependent on COVID-19 restrictions and will be announced at a later date.
