If you’re traveling in the Niles area here at the end of the week, be prepared for a detour on Third Street in Niles Township over the next 24-hours or more.
The Berrien County Road Department was slated to begin work early today on the adjustment of manhole covers along Third Street from Bell Road to Fulkerson Road, creating a detour for northbound traffic until sometime tomorrow, Friday, December 18th.
Work was targeted on the project to begin at 7:30 this morning, Thursday, December 17th, although it is all weather and work dependent as far as the timeframe for completion.
Third Street between Bell Road and Fulkerson Road will have manholes adjusted this week, resulting in traffic restrictions on Third Street which will be closed to all northbound traffic between Bell Road and Fulkerson.
Northbound traffic must take the established detour route or seek alternative routes during construction. Traffic traveling southbound will be permitted, but should anticipate possible delays according to Road Department officials.
The project is estimated to take approximately two days to complete, weather and contractor permitting. The detour goes from Bell Road to M-51 and back to Fulkerson, as shown in the graphic accompanying this story.
