As a burst of snow hit southwest Michigan on Friday, Dec. 9, a multi-vehicle collision involving two semi trucks and another vehicle caused Westbound I-94 after M-63, west of exit 27, to close for several hours.
According to a social media post Friday from the Lincoln Charter Township Fire Department, firefighters responded to a call for mutual aid from St. Joseph Charter Township, during which they saved a man who was in a dire situation.
“Upon arrival there was an individual trapped under the trailer of the semi and guard rail,” the post said. “Quick work by the Lincoln Township Firefighters and the towing company allowed the individual to save his leg and ultimately his life. The firefighters were able to use our extrication equipment to free the individual enough from under the guard rail to be removed.”
Zielke Towing also assisted in the rescue efforts, according to the Lincoln Charter Township Fire Department. With snowy conditions expected this weekend and throughout the winter, the fire department also advised caution for local drivers.
St. Joseph Charter Township authorities did not immediately return a call for additional information. Earlier this week, the incident was still under investigation. More details will be provided if they become available.
