Benton Township Police have identified the young man who was shot and killed during a large gathering outside of the Orchards Mall early Sunday morning. Authorities say he is 18-year old Tyreik Payton-Daniels.
Police say Payton-Daniels had a single gunshot wound to the hip area and was pronounced dead at Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph. A second shooting victim, a 19 year old man had sustained serious injuries from a gunshot wound and a third shooting victim, a 20 year old man had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Payton-Daniels at WMED in Kalamazoo and those results are pending. Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the Benton Township Police Department Detective Bureau at 269-925-1135.
