A sizable new matching challenge grant will help go a long way toward closing the million dollar gap remaining in the capital campaign for the Niles-Buchanan YMCA. In fact, the $500,000 challenge from two local foundations who have asked to remain anonymous in the campaign will truly boost the upcoming expansion considerably.
Jill Haboush is Vice President of Fund Development & Marketing for the Niles-Buchanan YMCA. She says, “This challenge will incentivize the community—from business leaders and other foundations to Y members and residents—to support the Y’s Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign,” She adds, “We are honored and excited to receive this challenge and look forward to continuing our fundraising efforts.”
The goal of the Y’s Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign is to do just as its title states—to change the lives and improve the health of the community.
The additional 13,700 square foot expansion including a youth center, a teen center, a second gymnasium and fitness room will provide affordable access to places for children and young people to find a positive, structured environment with role models, physical activity, and nutrition education so they have a clear path to a healthy, productive life.
The Niles-Buchanan YMCA is planning to break ground this fall on that expansion, with construction expected to take six-to-eight months to complete.
