Local wineries, breweries to participate in hospital fundraiser

Helping radiology patients never tasted so good.

Several outhwest Michigan breweries and wineries will be on display as the Ascension Borgess Lee Foundation hosts its 11th annual beer and wine tasting event August 6 at Blackmond’s Sesquicentennial Farm in Dowagiac.

Proceeds from the event go toward finishing the renovations on the Women’s Health Center in the radiology department at Ascension Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac.

“[The Women’s Health Center] provides a private, comfortable place for patients receiving ultrasound, mammography and bone density,” said Ascension Borgess Lee Foundation Development Officer Beth Cripe. “The renovation will allow people to have all these services done in a much more pleasant setting.

The Ascension Borgess Lee Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the Ascension Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac. Tickets are $75 per person, and include unlimited tasting, a souvenir wine glass and heavy hors d’oeuvres. The event is limited to 350 guests, which Cripe said sells out every year.

Participating wineries include Round Barn, Tabor Hill, Lemon Creek, Chill Hill, Cody Kresta and Contessa wineries. Breweries include Sister Lakes Brewing Company, Round Barn Brewery, Silver Harbor Brewing Company, Saugatuck Brewing Company, Tapistry and Virtue Cider.
