The Mainstage at Lake Michigan College will have a new name starting next month.
On Thursday, April 4, the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center will celebrate the memory of a long-time patron and benefactor when it renames the Mainstage in honor of Rolfe Jenkins.
According to LMC officials, Jenkins, who resided in St. Joseph, was an avid supporter of the performing arts in southwest Michigan and was a familiar face at the Mendel Center as a Mainstage season series ticket subscriber for many years.
Upon his passing in 2022, he left a significant bequest to the College. In honor of that gift, the new name of the Mainstage will be officially revealed during the dedication.
As part of the dedication activities, a live public concert performance by Journeyman: A Tribute to Eric Clapton will take place at 7:30 p.m.
According to Doug Schaffer, executive director of the Lake Michigan College Foundation, the performance was specially chosen to honor Jenkins’ connection to the Mendel Center.
“Rolfe was always quick to note that he was born on the same day of the same year as one of his favorite artists, Eric Clapton,” stated Schaffer. “We felt that recognizing his legacy-making gift with a night of music by this iconic artist is something Rolfe would have enjoyed.”
Journeyman concert tickets are on sale now to the public at www.TheMendelCenter.com and by calling 269-927-8700. Tickets may also be purchased in person through the Mendel Center box office weekdays from noon-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. and two hours before show times in the Mainstage lobby.
