The senses will be sent on a musical journey when the Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department presents the Pop/Rock and Jazz Band Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. And, there’s a unique twist–the concert, held in the LMC Mendel Center Jenkins Theatre, brings the audience into the experience through seating on stage with the performers.
Groups providing the evening’s entertainment are the LMC Rock/Pop Ensemble directed by Don Savoie and the LMC Jazz Band directed by Danny Lopez.
The LMC Pop/Rock Ensemble is a rock stage band performing music from classic rock to today’s pop hits. The playlist for this performance will be chosen from among one of Jimi Hendrix’s best-known tracks “Voodoo Child,” “The Modern Age” by The Strokes, “Pyro” by Kings of Leon, the late ‘80s hit “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles, “Walk Away” by Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and “Teen Town” by Weather Report
Personnel making up the Rock/Pop Band include Lauriebelle Radin and Neil Johnson on vocals, Andrew Ryan on bass, Zechariah Childs on drums, Anja Tabor on guitar, and Savoie on piano, guitar, and vocals.
LMC Jazz Band explores classical jazz styles, big band/swing era music, and the occasional rock arrangement. Among planned selections for this concert are “Told Ya So” by Gordon Goodwin, “Pacific Attitude” by Vince Gassi, and “Strollin’ with Sammy” by Paul Baker.
The LMC Jazz Band is made up of students and community members including Tammy Tallis-Crowner and Rodger Payne on alto sax; Marcia Blake and Ne’sha Heard-Bettison on clarinet; Doug Gillespie, Monica Harpole, and Dan Ward on trombone; Joey Hayman, Luis Sanchez, and Johnathan Orlando on trumpet; Nathan Dokter on piano; Guy Tardi on guitar; Douglas Wegscheid on bass; and Zechariah Childs and Markus White on percussion/drums.
