Best advice you ever got?
There are many pieces of advice that all relate to taking a chance in life. One that was popular in college and I am not sure who it actually came from, is “If you’re going to fail, fail fast” meaning go all in and know what results you expect early, if you don’t get them then adjust the plan or know that it isn’t going to work. The other one that our family uses daily is from my late father-in-law, “The worst thing you can do is nothing.” If you want something then you have to take action.
Who inspires you most?
I have had many people inspire me throughout my life. In my younger athletic career, my biggest inspiration was my high school wrestling coach, Dennis Paquette. He set expectations for us as athletes and our teams and pushed us to meet those. Looking back at that time in my life the lesson was that hard work can beat talent. If you put in the time and effort your goals can be achieved no matter who is in your way. As of today, my inspiration comes from my family. It crosses my mind every day that my actions have a direct impact on their lives and it motivates me to keep grinding for our family and set an example for my children.
That one thing about you we’d be most surprised to learn.
I like to try to grow all different kinds of plants but…..I typically fail miserably. I would say I am getting a little bit better each year but not sure if my wife agrees.
What do you love to do in your downtime?
When there is any, I have come to enjoy just sitting down and taking in the beauty and sounds of nature during the day and the stars at night. These moments typically last 5-10 minutes and then on to the next thing.
What book are you reading now?
Currently not reading one, at this point in time I am learning through real life actions.
Volunteer activity you love the most.
Coaching my kid’s youth softball and football teams.
What motivates you to give back to your community?
I am motivated to give back because of the support and help I received from family, friends, and community members when I was younger. Also, when competing in college I saw the opportunities that many others around the country had that just aren’t available in our area. Any extra time or financial support I can give will go a long way in helping to develop local programs.
What Superpower would you most love to have? (for example, the ability to fly or to be invisible, or incredible strength, etc)
Speed. I like to move quickly when working on things. Sometimes it backfires on me but I would rather move fast than slow.
What would you like to leave behind as your legacy once you are gone?
A legacy of hard work and effort that will be an example for my kids and grandkids.
What does the honor of being named to the 40 Under 40 most mean to you?
I don’t expect to get acknowledged for working hard. I think it is something that all of us do but it does mean a lot to be nominated and selected because others recognize the effort that is put in.
